Satchmo was from the first litter bred by me. He was by Int, Lux Ch Aritaur Histabraq SchH3, litter brother of Ch, Ir Ch Aritaur Hipnotique, who for many years was the UK Dobermann bitch breed record holder. His mother was my Nina (Cosajoro Nina Simone at Grafmax).

After being lightly shown at first, in 2011 he was BD and BOB and Darlington and in 2012 was again BD and BOS there. On 10 March 2013 I am very proud to say that Satchmo won the CC at Crufts and then went on to win BOB out of almost 200 Dobes and was shortlisted to the last 7 in the Working Group. Many thanks to Stuart Mallard, Keith Baldwin and Ferelith Somerfield for recognising his wonderful qualities. He has since obtained 4 RCC, his Belgian and Dutch Champion titles, 8 CAC, 7 CACIB, Belgian Winner 2013, Amsterdam Winner 2013, BIS at Dobermann Club Sept 2013 and at Chertsey Show April 2014, and RBIS at Belper 2014. He was BVIB at his first champ veteran class and was also BVIS at SW Dobe Club 2017. In total Satchmo had 104 class wins and 40 BOB.

Satchmo also did obedience, agility and Rally Obedience. He obtained his Kennel Club Puppy Foundation Certificate at 12 weeks of age, and had his KC Bronze, Silver and Gold as well as his SWDTBC Foundation. He won the Pre-beginners, Beginners and Novice obedience classes at BDDC in January 2019. He qualified excellent for level 1 Rally in March 2016, level 2 excellent in September 2018 and level 3 excellent in May 2019, becoming the first dobermann to get this far.

 

Satchmo was vWD clear, hips 5:4, PHPV clear. Both his parents lived to over 11 as did both his litter siblings that I was still in touch with. Bracco’s back legs failed and Nina died of the superbug chlostridium perfringens. Neither showed any signs of DCM or cancer. Satchmo had normal DCM test results in 2011, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. His thyroid function was normal in 2016. He died due to a leaky mitral valve. The PM showed no signs of DCM. RIP my lovely boy.
